Bora will be taking Spencer's room and Spencer has moved up to the attic. He has a huge bedroom, probably about 400 square feet. Plus, there is a second little room off to the side on the other side of the stairs, very confusing. It will be his library/study area.
.
Since the checkbook is slim these days, we had to take on this new challenge with extreme frugality.
.
I started with Craigslist. For all of you who really know me, you know I don't "do" used things. I can't even borrow clothing from my friends. Not a snob thing, it is more of a heebie geebie thing.
.
But, new is out of the question this time around. Back to Craigslist. I figured I would start with the bed and then go from there, as that seems to be the most expensive part. I found 2 headboards (or one headboard and one footboard) along with a neat chair all from one person. They were white wicker and in really good condition. Price for all 3 pieces: $50. So then I had my starting point.
.
We picked this up on Friday, or I guess that was yesterday!
.
This morning while I was sitting on the couch, working, I heard Jim in Spencer's room. He was taking furniture apart and Spencer was hauling it upstairs.
.
After a short while, everyone, even Steven pitched in and we got Spencer's new room looking very dandy!!!!
.
Back downstairs the real fun was just starting. We had the new trim hung up three years ago, three years! Yet we had never caulked it, filled the holes, or painted it. So today we started. I did the holes and caulking while Jim painted the edges.
Late afternoon we went used furniture store shopping. First on our list was River Road 2nd hand. We got a neat table for Spencer's room and bed rails for Bora.
.
Off to Eugene Liquidators. We scored! SCORED SCORED SCORED!
.
I got all this for $194 :
tall white dresser, solid wood.
wicker vanity
wicker mirror with little basket
wicker garbage can
wicker end table
neat old wood desk
.
The dresser and desk need some work, but not much at all.
.
It is getting there. The awful orange is not covering well and causes the nice brown we selected to look like a nasty blue gray, ew!.
.
So here is a photo of Spencer's "old" room before we started working on it today, Spencer's "old" room part way through, and Spencer's NEW room (with Spencer).
